Position: Senior R&D Engineer
Location: Hamden, CT
Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, high bandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks, Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help to enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEMs globally. Our global headquarters is located in Nashua, NH and we have design, sales and manufacturing locations globally. We are currently seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to join our team at Amphenol Spectra-Strip in Hamden, CT. In this role you will perform advanced studies on mechanical and thermal aspects through theory, modeling, simulations, measurements and contribute to the development of next generation products within the Advanced R&D Team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports the mechanical and thermal design, simulation, and characterization of our high-performance cable solutions
- Develop detailed multi-physics models of cables and systems with primary focus on their mechanical and thermal behavior
- Analyzes measurement data and optimize the technologies used in mechanical/thermal integration and testing to validate modeled performance and long-term reliability using Python, Matlab, or similar
- Conduct lab measurements using equipment such as Instron (tensile and compression), flex testers, microscopes
QUALIFICATIONS:
- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related field, and 5 years applicable experience preferred
- Solid understanding of mechanical and thermal principles, and material properties
- Experience with FEM-based simulation and design tools (ANSYS Mechanical preferred) and generating custom meshes
- Experience in scripting languages such as MATLAB, Python, or similar, and in developing custom codes for numerical simulations
- Hands-on experience in designing and conducting mechanical and thermal characterization experiments is required
