Position: Senior AI Software Engineer
Location: Etters, PA
Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high-speed, high-bandwidth electrical connectors, cables, and systems for the Datacom/Telecom market (AI, ML, GPUs, Servers, Switches, Routers, Storage). Our products help to enable the artificial intelligence revolution by helping major Tier 1 Hyperscale Data Centers, their OEMs and break-out AI customers to innovate globally. Our global headquarters is in Nashua, NH and we have engineering, sales, and manufacturing locations globally. We are establishing a new AI engineering capability within our NPI (New Product Introduction) organization and are seeking a Senior AI Software Engineer as a founding technical hire.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior AI Software Engineer will own the architecture and delivery of secure, production-ready AI applications that improve engineering workflows, including cost modeling, capacity analysis, knowledge retrieval, and stage-gate support. The engineer will partner closely with the Data & Business Analyst, NPI domain experts, enterprise data teams, and IT/security to move from prototypes to maintainable products with rigorous evaluation, human oversight, observability, and access controls. The successful candidate will set the technical roadmap and engineering standards while remaining deeply involved in design, coding, testing, and deployment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
AI Application & Agent Development
- Design, build, test, and deploy production-quality AI applications and agents using approved commercial or open-source models, tool/function calling, and workflow-orchestration patterns
- Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) services and a governed NPI knowledge layer that provide traceable access to standards, lessons learned, cost models, and project history
- Develop specialist agents and deterministic workflow components for prioritized NPI use cases, with human review and clear escalation paths for high-impact decisions
- Create automated evaluation, testing, guardrail, monitoring, and cost-management practices to measure accuracy, reliability, security, latency, and business impact
Data & Enterprise Integration
- Partner with enterprise data and system owners to connect AI applications to approved sources such as PLM, ERP, MES, SharePoint, demand systems, and factory/test data
- Design and implement secure APIs, services, connectors, and data contracts that support reliable retrieval, workflow execution, auditability, and maintainability
- Implement role-based access, data scoping, secrets management, logging, and privacy controls so users and agents access only authorized information
Technical Leadership & Delivery
- Own the target architecture, technical roadmap, and build-versus-buy decisions for the NPI AI application ecosystem and knowledge platform
- Establish practical engineering standards for source control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, documentation, observability, incident response, and reusable components
- Lead technical discovery and delivery planning with the Data & Business Analyst and engineering domain experts; translate workflows into scoped increments, estimates, and acceptance criteria
- Mentor engineers and technical contributors, communicate tradeoffs to stakeholders, and build a sustainable operating model as the capability grows
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, including architecture and delivery of reliable production applications or services
- Hands-on experience building and operating LLM-powered or agentic applications, including model APIs, tool/function calling, prompt design, RAG, and systematic evaluation
- Strong proficiency in Python, C#, Java, or a similar modern language, with experience designing APIs, services, data models, and integrations
- Experience with production engineering practices such as automated testing, CI/CD, source control, observability, secure development, and operational support
- Experience integrating enterprise data sources and building data pipelines, connectors, webhooks, or event-driven workflows; working knowledge of SQL and data-quality practices
- Demonstrated technical leadership, sound architectural judgment, and the ability to balance rapid experimentation with maintainability, security, and business risk
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain complex technical choices to engineering, business, data, and security stakeholders
- Ability to travel occasionally, up to 10% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing, engineering, or NPI environments and familiarity with PLM, ERP, MES, cost modeling, capacity planning, or stage-gate processes
- Experience with enterprise knowledge systems, vector search, cloud AI platforms, identity and access management, or deploying AI applications in governed environments
