Amphenol Cable Backplane Systems (CBS) is seeking a highly motivated Engineering Lead – Engineering Operations & Strategic Projects to work directly alongside the Director of Engineering. This role is designed for a high-potential engineer with strong technical aptitude, leadership potential, and a desire to develop into a broader engineering leadership position within the organization.
Acting as an engineering "apprentice" to the Director, this individual will gain exposure to all aspects of the engineering organization while leading strategic technical initiatives, driving cross-functional execution, and learning the business from both a technical and operational perspective. The objective is to provide immediate support to the Director by increasing organizational bandwidth while preparing the individual to transition into a future functional engineering leadership role.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Engineering Support
- Partner directly with the Director of Engineering on high-priority technical and operational initiatives.
- Lead special engineering projects that span multiple product lines, engineering functions, and manufacturing sites.
- Assist in executing strategic initiatives supporting engineering growth, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
- Analyze technical and business challenges and develop recommendations for leadership decision-making.
Technical Project Leadership
- Manage cross-functional engineering projects from concept through implementation.
- Coordinate activities between Mechanical, Electrical, Reliability, Test Development, Manufacturing, Quality, and Program Management teams.
- Drive project schedules, risk mitigation, issue resolution, and executive reporting.
- Ensure projects remain aligned with business objectives, customer expectations, and engineering standards.
Engineering Operations
- Support engineering resource planning and prioritization across multiple development programs.
- Help improve engineering processes, metrics, documentation, and reporting.
- Identify opportunities to increase engineering efficiency through standardization and best practices.
- Participate in engineering reviews, customer discussions, and strategic planning sessions.
Leadership Development
- Shadow the Director of Engineering to gain exposure to:

- Build working relationships across all engineering disciplines and business functions.

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or product development environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical projects across cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to influence without direct authority.
- High level of initiative, curiosity, and desire to learn.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- Experience within connectors, cable assemblies, interconnect systems, electronics, or related industries.
- Exposure to New Product Introduction (NPI) processes.
- Knowledge of APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Design Reviews, or Stage Gate development.
- Experience working with global engineering organizations.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
- Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading project teams.
