Position: Process Engineering Technician- Wrapping

Location: Hamden, CT

Amphenol Spectra-Strip is a leader in hyperscale data center bulk wire solutions. We develop and manufacture gigabit copper cable solutions for high-performance and cloud-compute applications. We are currently seeking a Process Engineering Technician - Wrapping to join our team in Hamden, CT. This hands-on developmental role supports wrapping manufacturing assets and processes while building the knowledge and skills needed to become a future technical resource for the site.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Process Engineering Technician supports wrapping production through hands-on process assistance, documentation, data collection, basic troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. The individual will work under the direction of Process Engineering and alongside experienced manufacturing personnel while developing deeper technical knowledge of wrapping equipment and processes.

  • Support daily setup, operation, and troubleshooting of wrapping machines and related equipment.
  • Work with experienced operators and the wrapping subject-matter expert to learn equipment, materials, product constructions, setup methods, and common process issues.
  • Assist operators with process adjustments, setup consistency, quality concerns, scrap reduction, and basic equipment troubleshooting.
  • Collect and organize process information such as machine settings, speed, downtime, setup time, scrap, and quality results.
  • Follow structured problem-solving methods to document problems, gather facts, support root cause investigations, and verify corrective actions.
  • Assist with process trials, new product runs, tooling changes, equipment improvements, and process qualifications.
  • Create and update setup sheets, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, visual standards, and training materials.
  • Support the installation, testing, and organization of wrapping tooling, guides, fixtures, and basic machine improvements.
  • Work with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Production to resolve recurring process or equipment issues.
  • Help train operators on approved setup methods, process standards, inspection requirements, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Support 5S, tooling control, workplace organization, and safe work practices within the wrapping area.
  • Complete assigned improvement projects and communicate progress, findings, and support needs to the Process Engineering team.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required (10%)

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in an engineering or manufacturing technology field; equivalent military technical training or relevant manufacturing experience may be considered.
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude and interest in manufacturing equipment, tooling, materials, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, equipment manuals, drawings, process specifications, and inspection requirements.
  • Ability to collect accurate information and use a logical, step-by-step approach to problem solving.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn from experienced personnel and progressively assume greater technical responsibility.
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment and support other shifts when needed for training, trials, or troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in wire and cable manufacturing, wrapping, cabling, shielding, taping, serving, braiding, extrusion, converting, textiles, film, or other web-handling processes.
  • Experience operating, setting up, maintaining, or troubleshooting manufacturing equipment.
  • Community college, technical school, apprenticeship, or military technical background.
  • Experience using measurement equipment and interpreting basic quality or process data.
  • Familiarity with 5S, standard work, 5 Why, root cause analysis, or other structured problem-solving methods.
  • Experience creating work instructions, training materials, or technical documentation.
